Welcome To The Prosseda Family Website!
One hundred six years following the arrival of Gelasio Nicola Prosseda in America, we celebrate the treasure of family. The primary focus of this online venture will be the sharing of family history and news with the descendants of the three sons of Luca and Rosa Prosseda of Norma Italy. Gelasio, Candido, and Giovanni Battista chose not only to live and work in America for a time but to remain here to raise their young families and start new lives. Their trials and triumphs have become part of our family story.

Building a website is a big undertaking and, out of necessity, it will take place in phases. First, we will begin with a family history of our Italian ancestors in the years prior to 1900 when the first big wave of Italian immigration began. To understand the richness of our heritage, we will travel back in time to Norma Italy to touch on the general conditions that shaped their decision to travel across the ocean to America. Later web pages will add genealogy, early photos of our Italian relatives, biographical profiles of relatives both here and abroad, poems written by the brothers’ siblings Don Mauro and Sister Loreta, and some regional Italian history. Plans include a bulletin board where all family members and even distant relatives can post and share information. |
As sections are added to the site, certain pages will be password protected in order to ensure our privacy and to control access to any email addresses or other sensitive information which might be posted or discussed. Len Prosseda, grandson of Gelasio and son of Ernie Prosseda, will serve as Webmaster. He has spent months synthesizing ideas from many family members and has been (and will be) instrumental in converting these ideas into designs and images. Cousins Jeff and Kathleen will be co-authors of the pages you will see. Along with Len, we share a passion for history. We hope that our weeks and months of diligent research provides content that is both informative AND fun to read! |
